The Chimaera is a beast from Greek mythology, possessing a lion's body, a goat's head on its back, and a snake's head (occasionally depicted as its tail).  The son of the monsters Typhon and Echidna, it was slain by the hero Bellerophon, who rode atop Pegasus the winged horse.  You may recognize it from its appearance in The Lightning Thief, the first book of the Percy Jackson series.  (And then it never shows up again... for... reasons...)
